The summit of Fitz Roy is often enveloped in a cloud of smoke, so until the French summited in 1970, people mistook it for a volcano. The Tverche people on the plateau, nomadic migration from the Atlantic coast to the Andes in summer, are marked by the prominent mountains and clouds of Fizrei. Cerro means mountain in Spanish, and FitzRoy's international name is named after the 19th-century captain of the British "Hound Hound", a famous explorer who had been surveying here for quite some time. It was during his second trip that he brought Darwin out and became a great man in human natural history.
