Corvallis is a charming, leafy college town that is home to Oregon State University. Look the same and start your day on one of the most popular hikes in the area. At more than 4,000 feet above sea level, it is the highest point in the Oregon Coast Mountains and home to many wildflowers, flora and fauna.
Back in town, Alsea Falls welcomes campers, fishermen (salmon and ironhead are plentiful) and its eponymous waterfall, which drops 30 feet into a pristine pool of water, Mist filled.
Experience history on the walkable OSU campus: Many of the buildings here are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and these monuments make your stroll a delight. It's also very convenient if you want to explore the area by bike, with more than 100 miles of rubberized bike paths connecting to parks and other municipal facilities.
