History development

Boise
The original Fort Boise was located 40 miles west of the present-day city, on the Oregon border near the lower reaches of the Boise River near its confluence with the Snake River. The fort was first established by the Hudson's Bay Company in the 1830s, but was abandoned in the 1850s. Occasional violence on the Oregon Trail forced the U.S. Army to re-establish a fort nearby during the Civil War in 1863. This new location was chosen for its proximity to the Oregon Trail and its proximity to roads leading to the Boise Basin (Idaho City) and Owyhee mining areas, two areas that were thriving at the time. Idaho City was at first the largest city in the area, but Fort Boise, the pre-place for Idaho City, grew rapidly, and Boise City Hall was established in 1864. Idaho's first state capital was in Lewiston, but the state capital was moved to Boise in 1865. In 1863, a large gold mine was discovered nearby and a settlement was established. In 1864, it became the state capital. It was developed due to gold mining in the early stage and the expansion of forestry and irrigated agriculture in the later stage. It is now a trading center for agricultural and livestock products. Food processing, furniture, electrical machinery and other industries are developed.

population
According to the 2010 census, Boise had 205,671 residents, 85,704 households, and 50,647 households, with a density of 1,000.6 people per square kilometer. 89.0% white, 1.5% African/Black, 0.7% Native American, 3.2% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 2.5% other race, 3% mixed race, Hispanic/Latin American Ethnic (possibly any of the above) 7.1%. The average age of Boise City residents is about 35, with 23 percent of residents under 18 and 11 percent over 65. 49% of residents are male and 51% are female.

Boise's population has experienced two surges in history, in the early 19th and early 20th centuries and in the second half of the 20th century, especially between 1960 and 1970, when the population increased by 117.5%.
