Indiana (Indiana--IN) is a state in the northeast of the United States. It is bordered by Lake Michigan to the northwest, Michigan to the north, Ohio to the east, and Illinois to the west. South across the Ohio River and Kentucky. It is 257 kilometers wide from east to west and 451 kilometers long from north to south. With an area of 93,993 square kilometers, it ranks 38th among the 50 states.
With a population of 6,313,520 (2006), Indiana ranks 14th out of 50 states. The capital is Indianapolis. Indiana means the land of the Indians. Several U.S. Navy warships are named after Indiana. History
Indiana, the name indicates that this piece of land was once the territory of the Indians.
In the early days, it was the residence of the Algonquin, Iroquois, Potawatomi, Delaware and other tribes among the Indians. Archaeologists have discovered the earliest inhabitants of Angel Hill on the Ohio River.
In 1730, the British began to colonize the state. Indiana later became a French colony. In the second half of the 18th century, wars between Indians and white immigrants from Britain, the United States, France and other countries lasted for many years, and were controlled by Britain after the French Indian War.

After the United States became independent, it was converted to the United States and was part of the Northwest Territories. In 1794, the Indian tribes were forced to cede the eastern region they had lived in for generations. In 1800, the Northwest Territory was seceded to become the Indiana Territory.
Joined the United States as the 19th state on December 11, 1816.
