The "Great Northern Line" starts from Chengdu, passes through Dujiangyan, passes through Miyaro Nature Reserve, passes through Wenchuan, and arrives at Malkang. After entering Ganzi Prefecture, enter Tibet via Luhuo, Ganzi, Dege, Gangga Jinsha River Bridge, and then pass through Jiangda, Changdu, Leiwuqi, Baqing, Suoxian, and Naqu to Lhasa. Compared with the southern route, the northern route passes mostly pastoral areas (such as Naqu area), with higher altitude, less population and more primitive and magnificent scenery.

Compared with the section from Xinduqiao to Batang on the southern line, the line from Xinduqiao to Dege on the northern Sichuan-Tibet line is basically along the Xianshui River and Yalong River, with grassland, canyon, river, river and other landforms, not as high and gentle as the southern line. The scenery and culture of the Tagong Grassland are excellent. The folk houses of Daofu, Luhuo and other places rank first in Juekang District and even the whole Tibetan area. The river valley of Ganzi County is an excellent agricultural area in the Kang District, with numerous temples. The natural scenery of Manigange, Xinluhai and Queer Mountain is beautiful, and Dege is the cultural center of the whole Tibetan area. The highest point along the way is Queer Mountain, which is 6168 meters above sea level. The scenery is beautiful, and the ice peaks and snow mountains are as beautiful as fairies in the clouds. Shiqu has the most beautiful grassland in Kang District. If you enter Yushu Prefecture of Qinghai from Shiqu, you can reach Xining, the capital of Qinghai Province, or Qinghai Lake through Maduo and Hot Spring. Along the way, plateau lakes, snowy mountains and hot springs are densely distributed, and few tourists have set foot in it. It is the best route recommended by cross-country explorers.

The best time to enter and leave Tibet along the Sichuan-Tibet line is May and mid-August to October. The rainy season in the west is from May to August. Due to frequent mudslides and landslides on the Sichuan-Tibet line, the travel schedule should be relatively generous. In addition to enjoying the particularly beautiful and attractive scenery of the Sichuan-Tibet line in the rainy season, it also requires the courage and determination to walk through the landslide area.

In general, the northern Sichuan-Tibet route has a religious flavor and is a good tourist route to understand Tibetan culture.
