Salvador (full name S ã o Salvador da Ba í a de Todos os Santos, Portuguese meaning "San Salvador by the Bay of All Saints") is a coastal city in the northeast of the Federative Republic of Brazil and the capital of Bahia. For a long time, El Salvador was directly referred to as Bahia, and it was labeled Bahia in many books and maps before the mid-20th century (such as in the book "Robinson Crusoe" by British author Daniel Defoe). Many contemporary locals still refer to Bahia as El Salvador, while many others in Brazil refer to the state as Bahia,  sports fitness  .

El Salvador is located on a peninsula on the Atlantic coast, very close to the Bay of dos Santos. It is the center of the local urban area. In 2002, its population was 2.54 million, making it the third largest city in Brazil.

Formerly known as "San Salvador" and "Bahia". An important natural deep-water port on the Atlantic coast of Brazil, the capital of Bahia. Located on the east coast of Santos Bay. With a population of 3459377 (as of August 1, 2010), it is the eighth largest city in Brazil. The ancient city is one of the oldest cities in Brazil, founded in 1549, and the first batch of churches were built by Jesuits in 1549. Until 1763, El Salvador was the capital of Brazil. It is a comprehensive industrial and commercial city. The nearby Candyas oilfield produces oil. The industries include petroleum refining and Petrochemistry, automobile, food, tobacco, textile, shipbuilding, etc. The sea and land transportation is developed, and there are airports in the suburbs. The port is open and deep, capable of berthing ocean going giant ships and super oil tankers, exporting textiles, tobacco, coffee, oil, etc. The urban area is built on a peninsula that extends into the Atlantic Ocean, divided into high and low cities, and connected by elevators and cable cars. Travel



El Salvador retains many famous Renaissance architecture, as well as many colonial architecture, including Brazil's first cathedral and the oldest medical school. There are a large number of 16th century buildings in the city, and they are religious buildings. Many of them are decorated with 17th and 18th century carvings, and there are many stripes made of colored mud, reflecting the characteristics of the colonial period. This city has a very large number of churches, with an estimated number of over 160, making it the city with the most churches in Latin America.
