East slope of Mount Everest

East slope of Mount Everest

Among the various angles of view on the east slope of Mount Everest, one angle has been silent for a whole hundred years, and it is more difficult to find written and photographic records. It is the Kada Valley, opposite to the northeast slope of Mount Everest. From 1921, the expedition team of Mount Everest in Mallory explored the Kada Valley. To 2021, the author of this paper once again inspected the Kada Valley. They showed us the great changes that have taken place in this mysterious land in the past century, sports fitness    .
Looking for the "Kada Valley" that has been neglected for a hundred years

In 2020, I participated in the survey of the new elevation of Everest. In that survey, I accidentally found that the northeast slope of Mount Everest is a huge pyramid-shaped peak through satellite images. Combining the rock wall and marginal ridge of Luozi Peak, there are huge glaciers and ice lakes at the foot of the slope. If I try to visit Mount Everest from this angle, I will definitely get a wonderful picture. From then on, I was fascinated by the exploration of the northeast slope of Everest and began to study the hiking route of the northeast slope of Everest.

In the process of data collection, I found Halta Valley, but I was surprised to find that this route can be said to be unknown, let alone field investigation.

This "unconventional" perspective shows us the northeast slope of Mount Everest, which has been silent for 100 years. One hundred years ago, in 1921, the British explorer George Mallory's Everest expedition arrived here through the Kada Valley, and took a photo with the Kada Glacier on the northeast slope of Everest; In the next 100 years, the northeast slope of Mount Everest and the Kada Valley have disappeared in the long river of time, and people know little about it. One hundred years later, in 2021, the author and his colleagues "rediscovered" the Kada Valley, reproducing "the northeast slope of Mount Everest and the Kada Glacier". They named the shooting site "Luolin Peak" with an altitude of 6223 meters, which has been listed on the Himalayan information website.

In 2021, it is exactly 100 years since the British explorer George Mallory visited Kada. My friend Dong Shuchang and I shared the idea of going to Kada. He simulated and found that when shooting from the Kada Valley to the northeast slope of Mount Everest, the most dreamy "Galaxy palette" of Scorpio (the name of Scorpio's star lovers) in the night sky would just fall on the top of Mount Everest. How could such a picture not be exciting?

We began to prepare this trip in June, study the route, arrange the equipment and find the shooting location. Finally, the departure time is chosen at the end of September, which is the last time in the year that you can shoot the Galaxy palette.

For me, Kada is a completely strange hiking trip. The only reference materials I have at hand are the photos and survey notes of the British mountaineer George Mallory and his companions 100 years ago. I have to say that we were worried before the trip started. However, in the past 100 years, except for herdsmen, few people have come to Dhaka. What has changed in Kada now? What changes have taken place in the glaciers and snow mountains along the way? These problems attract us to visit at all costs.

Kada, which means "snow valley" in Tibetan, is now the general name of the southern area of Qudang Township, Dingri County. The famous Gama Valley has attracted so many people's attention that few people have heard of Kada's name. We took a bus to Kadap village, about 4300 meters above sea level. "Pu" in Tibetan means "the end of the valley". This is the last village before entering the Kardap Valley, and also the starting point of our hiking trip.

I think Kada Valley is a desolate valley, but in fact, in the valley below 4500 meters above sea level, shrubs represented by various alpine azaleas can be said to be everywhere. In the shadow of the bushes, there are even wild mountain fungi as big as palm trees. On the grassland, there are some plateau characteristic plants, such as the magnificent gentian grass and the mat plum.

We walked along the valley to the west, and Kada hid the cloth at the bottom of the valley. It's nice to walk. It wasn't long before we arrived at Tonalon. This is a scenic spot. The Tolagabuche Snow Mountain with an altitude of 6135 meters is very close and spectacular. At the same time, it is also a very suitable place for camping, with sufficient water. But we want to challenge ourselves and put our camp in a distant place tonight. Before sunset, we almost exhausted our strength before reaching the bottom of a pass named "Nezha". After a day's trip, we camped at the scene, had dinner, and then
