The Cook Islands, located in the South Pacific, between French Polynesia and Fiji, originated from the name of Captain James Cook who explored the South Pacific on an expedition and found many islands. It is a free combination area of New Zealand's kingdom. The country covers an area of 240 square kilometers and is composed of 15 small islands. Avarua, the capital, is located on Rarotonga Island. The Maori are indigenous people. In 1773, Captain Cook of the British Navy explored this area and named it "Cook". It became a British protectorate in 1888. In June 1901, it became a territory of New Zealand. In 1964, a referendum was held under the supervision of the United Nations and the constitution was passed. The Constitution came into effect in 1965, implementing full internal autonomy, enjoying full legislative and executive power, maintaining free communication with New Zealand, and assisting in defense and diplomacy.



In 1989, the New Zealand government sent a letter to the United Nations stating that the Cook Islands had full constitutional capacity to independently manage their foreign relations and sign international agreements, hoping that the international community would treat the Cook Islands as a sovereign state.



In 2020, the gross domestic product was 279 million US dollars, and the per capita GDP was 14100 US dollars. In New Zealand currency, 1 Singapore dollar is approximately 0.64 US dollars (as of June 2022). The main economic source is the tourism industry. New Zealand is the largest source of customers.

The national flag of the Flag of the Cook Islands was launched on August 4, 1979. The national flag is rectangular with a length to width ratio of 2:1. Blue represents the peaceful nature of the Pacific and the people of the archipelago. In the upper left corner is the Flag of the United Kingdom, which indicates that the Cook Islands has historical ties with the United Kingdom and is a member of the Commonwealth. On the right is a circle of 15 Pentagram. The 15 stars represent the 15 islands of the Cook Islands.
National Emblem
The Coat of arms of the Cook Islands was launched in 1978. The national emblem has a shield shape as its focal point. The shield contains fifteen stars that can be found on the national flag. On both sides of the shield shaped national emblem are flying fish and white gulls. One supports the cross representing Christian symbols, while the other supports the Rarotonga stick representing the traditional richness of the Cook Islands.
