Xingtai City, abbreviated as "Xing" and formerly known as Xingzhou and Shunde Prefecture, is a prefecture level city in Hebei Province, a type II large city. It is a node city in the Beijing Tianjin Hebei urban agglomeration, an advanced manufacturing base in central and southern Hebei, and a logistics hub approved by the Hebei Provincial Government. Xingtai City is located in the south of Hebei Province, at the east foot of the southern section of Taihang Mountains, at the western edge of North China Plain, facing Shandong Province with the Wei Canal as the boundary in the east, adjacent to Taihang Mountains and Shanxi Province in the west, connected with Handan City in the south, adjacent to Shijiazhuang City in the north and Hengshui City in the northeast, 106 kilometers away from the provincial capital Shijiazhuang City in the north, and 396 kilometers away from the capital Beijing.
Xingtai has a history of more than 3500 years of city construction, with human habitation and reproduction dating back 50000 to 100000 years. It is the first city in North China's history and is known as the "ancient capital of five dynasties and the great commandery of ten dynasties". After more than 3000 years of administrative establishment without interruption, the city site has not been relocated. Xingtai Ancient City is the earliest "first ancient city" built in the area north of the Yellow River, and is known as the "first city of Yan and Zhao". The long history has given rise to ancient sages such as Guo Shoujing, Wei Zheng, Li Mu, Song Jing, and Liu Bingzhong, as well as emperors such as Guo Wei, Chai Rong, Meng Zhixiang, and Meng Chang. The west is high and the east is low. Mountains, hills and plains are arranged in steps from the west to the east, mainly plains. The Beijing Guangzhou Railway runs north-south at the junction of hills and plains, with mountainous and hilly areas in the west and plain areas in the east. The mountainous area is located in the western part of Xingtai region, with an area of 1767.31 square kilometers, accounting for 14.21% of the total area of the city. The mountain ranges mostly run in a north northeast direction, with an altitude of over 500 meters. There are many peaks over 1000 meters, such as North Wudang Mountain at 1437 meters, Huangyuling Mountain at 1386 meters, Yunmeng Mountain at 1384 meters, Zijin Mountain at 1370 meters, West Wuzhi Mountain at 1352 meters, Dafotang Pass at 1310.7 meters, Taiziyan at 1141 meters, Lingxiao Mountain at 1129.6 meters, etc. The highest peak is located in Bu Lao Qing Shan, with its main peak at Cross Ridge, at an altitude of 1822 meters. There are large areas of granite and gneiss exposed in this area. Due to their weak resistance to weathering, the mountain tops are mostly round in shape, with thick weathering crust, high sand content, and good vegetation. The plain is located east of the Beijing Guangzhou Railway, with a total area of 8765.75 square kilometers, accounting for 70.50% of the total area of the city. At an altitude of 100 to 30 meters, it is the "granary" and "cotton sea" of Xingtai City.
