United Arab Emirates (Arabic: امارات عربية متحدة ）Abbreviated as the United Arab Emirates, the capital of Abu Dhabi. Located in the east of the Arabian Peninsula, adjacent to Oman in the east, bordering Qatar in the northwest, bordering Saudi Arabia in the south and southwest, bordering the Persian Gulf in the north, and facing Iran across the sea, it has a tropical desert climate, mainly composed of plains, mountains, and depressions, and is unusually rich in oil and natural gas resources. With a total area of 83600 square kilometers and a coastline of 734 kilometers, it is composed of seven emirates. By the end of 2019, the total population of the United Arab Emirates was 9.77 million, and the majority of its residents believed in Islam, most of them Sunni. In the 7th century, the United Arab Emirates belonged to the Arab Empire. Since the 16th century, colonial democrats such as Portugal, the Netherlands, and France have invaded successively. In the early 19th century, Britain invaded the Persian Gulf region, and in 1820, it became a British protectorate. In 1971, Britain announced the termination of the protection treaty. On December 2 of the same year, the United Arab Emirates was proclaimed as a federal state, consisting of six emirates: Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Fuchaira, Umm Qavan, and Ajman. On February 10th, 1972, Cape Haima joined the United Arab Emirates.
The United Arab Emirates is a member of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), with a national economy dominated by oil production and the petrochemical industry. In addition, it has vigorously developed a knowledge-based economy with information technology as its core, while focusing on renewable energy research and development. The capital, Abu Dhabi, was selected as the headquarters of the International Renewable Energy Agency in June 2009.
The United Arab Emirates is also a member of the League of Arab States, the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the Greater Arab Free Trade Area. In 2021, the gross domestic product of the United Arab Emirates was US $410.1 billion.
